Hill Country Whitetail Deer Hunt in Texas

$2,750 (buck, doe, pigs)

Experience this fun 3-day Whitetail Deer hunt in Texas.  This is a multi-species hunt that includes a buck, doe, and unlimited hogs on expansive, private ranches in the Texas hill country.  Though you will have many opportunities on this hunt, set your expectations on a buck scoring from 120 to 135 inches.  Of course, bigger bucks are shot here every year, but it’s not the norm.

Beyond the field, you will experience legendary Texas hospitality, featuring comfortable lodge accommodations and hearty, home cooked meals.

I have personally hunted with this outfitter, and can confidently recommend their excellent operation. The guiding is exceptional, and their diverse selection of available game species is truly second to none.

Accommodations

Hunting Lodge

Perched high on a ridge overlooking the rolling Texas Hill Country, the hunting lodge offers the perfect blend of rugged adventure and down home comfort. The lodge features two spacious bedrooms (king-size beds) alongside a bunkroom that comfortably sleeps six people. After a rewarding day in the field, gather in the expansive great room to watch your favorite shows, catch the game, or swap stories of the day’s hunt.

As the sun sets, unwind by the crackling outdoor firepit on a cool Texas evening. For those who finish their hunt early, the ranch has private bass fishing just steps away.

Food and Drink

All meals, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks are included with your hunt. You will be served hearty, home-cooked meals of Texas comfort food to keep your energy high from the morning to the evening hunt. You are welcome to bring your own alcoholic beverages if you desire.

Weapons for this Hunt

Use any rifle or muzzleloader you normally hunt deer with.

Hunting Season

When your local seasons close, your next adventure is just beginning in the Texas Hill Country. The ranch operates year-round, giving you a world-class destination for exotic and preserve hunting whenever the urge strikes. Free-range whitetail hunting is offered during regular Texas hunting season.

  • Horned Game: Horned exotics can be harvested all year long.
  • Antlered Game: The antlered game hunting season tracks with the natural hard-horn cycle. For instance, preserve whitetail deer can be hunted from September until they lose their antlers in the spring.

Hunting Environment

The Texas Hill Country is known for its distinctive limestone hills, rolling fields, and extensive network of rivers and creeks. Unlike the arid west or the humid east, this region blends dry air with moderate humidity. Overall, it features a mild, semi-arid climate with hot summers and short, mild winters.

  • Spring (March–May): Highly comfortable with highs shifting from 65°F to 85°F. This is the wettest season, bringing famous wildflower blooms.
  • Summer (June–August): Hot and mostly dry, with daily highs consistently in the 90s and peaking over 100°F. Lower humidity than coastal Texas makes it more manageable.
  • Fall (September–November): Pleasant relief arrives as temperatures dip from the 80s down to the 60s. Mornings become crisp, accompanied by clear blue skies.
  • Winter (December–February): Generally mild with daytime highs in the low 60s and nighttime lows dropping into the 30s and 40s. Hard freezes occur occasionally, but snow is rare.

Travel Details

The closest major airport is San Antonio International Airport (SAT), which is a 1 hour and 45 minute drive to the ranch. Alternatively, San Angelo Regional Airport (SJT) offers limited commercial flights and is a shorter 1 hour and 15 minute drive. A rental car will be needed when you arrive by air.

Driving directly to the lodge remains a popular choice for many hunters, as it allows you to easily transport your meat, cape, and horns/antlers back to your home or taxidermist. If you prefer not to travel with your trophies, the outfitter has a taxidermist in Texas that they recommend. If you choose this option, the outfitter will get your animal(s) to the taxidermist. The taxidermist will contact you directly to finalize the details. Once completed, your mount(s) can either be shipped to your home or picked up in person.
