About the Kri-Kri Ibex
General Information
The kri-kri ibex is a rare, small wild goat found only in Greece. They features a light brown coat, distinctive dark markings, and large, sweeping horns.
Habitat and Behavior

- Lifestyle: Shy and active mostly at night or early morning to avoid humans.

- Protection: Saved from near extinction by moving groups to protected islands, making them a closely guarded symbol of the Mediterranean
Description of the Persian Ibex
The Kri-Kri ibex is a small, slender wild goat weighing 100 to 140 pounds with a shoulder height of about 32 inches, featuring striking blackish-brown markings and large scimitar-shaped horns.
Body and Coat
- Size: Smallest of the wild goat types, with males reaching up to 140 lbs and females being notably smaller.
- Summer Coat: Reddish-brown with distinct dark markings including a stripe down the back, shoulder stripes, flank stripes, and a dark face and throat.
- Winter Coat: Turns to an ashy gray color in adult males.
- Underparts: White belly and backs of the legs.
Head and Horns
- Beard: Males grow a prominent, shaggy black chin beard.
- Male Horns: Large, curved like a scimitar, and pressed flat on the sides with sharp, ridged knobs along the front edge.
- Female Horns: Much shorter, thinner, and smoother, paired with no beard and a simple brownish-tan coat.
Suitable Weapons
A long-range flat shooting rifle in the 6.5 to 30 caliber will be sufficient to bring down a Kri-Kri Ibex.
Hunting Area
Kri-Kri ibex hunting is available primarily on specific Greek islands like Sapientza and Atalanti, as well as select private ranches in Texas and select reserves in Croatia and Macedonia.
Trophy Expectations
Horns that measure 29 inches or longer are considered a trophy Kri-Kri Ibex.
