About the Texas Dall Sheep

The Texas Dall sheep is a striking hybrid developed in the 1960s at the famous Y.O. Ranch in the Texas Hill Country. Originally bred by crossing Mouflon ewes with Rambouillet rams, this selective breeding created a unique animal that looks similar to the wild Alaskan Dall sheep but is actually a distinct type of Corsican.

These sheep are famous for their solid, milky-white coats and impressive, continuously growing horns. Mature rams boast massive, heavy horns that curl outward and can reach over 40 inches in length. While they share “Dall” in their name, they are much easier to access than their northern namesakes and are highly prized by exotic hunters for their aesthetic beauty and impressive trophy mounts.

Adapted well to the brush and rugged terrains of ranches, Texas Dall sheep are known for being incredibly agile and alert. They are gregarious animals that graze primarily on weeds and tender grasses.
