Description of the Transcaspian Urial
Body Size and Build
- Height: Stands up to 39 inches tall at the shoulders.
- Weight: Adult males (rams) weigh up to 200 pounds; females (ewes) are smaller, weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Form: Possesses a lean, strong, and agile frame built for steep slopes and open terrain.
Coat and Coloration
- Upper Body: Uniformly bright tawny-brown or sandy-tan color.
- Underparts: White belly, muzzle, lower legs, and distinct rump patch, separated from the upper body by a darker side stripe.
- Neck Ruff: Adult males grow a long, flowing white beard or neck bib (ruff) that can reach up to 9 inches in length during winter.
