A Blackbuck’s corkscrew-shaped horns are typically found only on males. These ringed, unbranched horns grow in a V-shape and can reach up to 27.5 inches in length, spiraling up to 4 turns.

Blackbucks are hunted on exotic game ranches primarily in Texas and Oklahoma. To hunt free-range Blackbucks, large populations thrive on private estates less than an hour outside Buenos Aires, Argentina.
What is Considered a Trophy Blackbuck
A good trophy blackbuck is generally a mature male with a striking black and white coat and long, spiraled horns. The specific qualities that make an exceptional blackbuck trophy include:
- Horn Length & Mass: Horns that reach from 18 to 20 inches are typical trophies, while anything over 20 inches is exceptional. A world-class animals can exceed 24 inches. The best horns also feature solid bases and retain thick ridges all the way to the tips.
- Spiral & Curl: Mature bucks typically feature 2 to 4 beautiful, corkscrew curls. Symmetrical, tight spirals on both sides are highly prized.
- Coat Color: A prime trophy of a fully mature male features a dark, contrasting coat of chocolate to jet-black on their back, sides, and face, set against a stark white belly and distinct white eye rings. Younger males and non-dominant bucks will retain a lighter colored coat.
- Body Size: Mature males typically weigh between 80 to 100 pounds and stand from 29 to 33 inches tall at the shoulders, with a thick, robust build.
