About the Texas Ibex
General Information
The “Texas Ibex” typically refers to the hybrid ibex—a cross between the Persian Bezoar Ibex and a Catalina goat—as well as pure Nubian Ibex that roam the Texas Hill Country. Known for their dramatic horns and agile climbing abilities, these exotic animals offer a challenging, bucket-list hunting experience right in the southern United States.
Description of the Texas Ibex
The hybrid ibex is renowned for its large horns, pronounced beard, and distinctive cross markings trailing down its neck and back. These males usually weigh between 130 to 160 pounds and feature horns that measure 26–34 inches.
Suitable Weapons
A long-range flat shooting rifle in the 6.5 to 30 caliber will be sufficient to bring down a Texas Ibex.
Hunting Area
Texas Ibex can be hunted at a few high fence hunting preserves in Texas.
Trophy Expectations
Horns that measure over 26 inches long are considered a trophy Texas Ibex.
