You will definitely not go hungry and will likely be planning your return trip before you even unpack.
Weapons for this Hunt
A long-range flat shooting rifle in the 6.5 to 30 caliber will be sufficient to bring down an Aoudad sheep. Aoudad are incredibly tough, dense-boned animals with a powerful will to survive, so a well placed shoulder or heart/lung shot is necessary.
Hunting Season
Aoudad are an exotic species in Oklahoma so they can be hunted year-round. However, booking your hunt between September and March is the ideal time. The fall rut occurs from September into October and the rams are very active at this time pursuing the ewes. By December the autumn foliage has dropped drastically increasing visibility in the wooded areas. This makes December through March the prime time for winter blind hunting as the rams are looking for food.
Hunting Environment
From the fabulous lodge to the mild Oklahoma weather, hunting the Aoudad will be a great experience. Unlike the extreme temperature swings found further north, Oklahoma’s hunting season offers comfortable, crisp mornings and temperate afternoons that allow you to stay in the field longer without battling the elements. On the occasional rainy day, you can hunt from the elevated blinds and have an enjoyable hunt staying nice and dry.
