Weapons for this Hunt
Any long-range cartridge from .243 win up to any of the .30 caliber rifles will work great. These calibers are highly available, easy to shoot, and provide the perfect balance of power and minimal meat damage. Essentially, any cartridge used for Whitetail Deer hunting will work well for Fallow Deer.
Hunting Season
The best time to hunt Fallow Deer is during the autumn rut from September through November. During this magical window, the woods come alive as dominant bucks actively vocalize, fight, and scrape the ground to court does, making them incredibly aggressive and highly active during daylight hours. The post-rut period from December through March also offers great hunting. By winter, the woods have thinned out for better visibility, and the cooler weather keeps the bucks moving toward food sources.
When your hunting season has closed but you aren’t ready to put your rifle away, this is the ultimate destination.
Hunting Environment
From the fabulous lodge to the mild Oklahoma weather, hunting the Fallow Deer will be a great experience. Unlike the extreme temperature swings found further north, Oklahoma’s hunting season offers comfortable, crisp mornings and temperate afternoons that allow you to stay in the field longer without battling the elements. On the occasional rainy day, you can hunt from the elevated blinds and have an enjoyable hunt staying nice and dry.
