Weapons for this Hunt
A .30 caliber or larger rifle is best suited for hunting a Zebra. These calibers provide the deep penetration and knock-down energy needed to hunt these tough, thick-skinned animals.
Hunting Season
The best time of year to hunt Zebra is September through February. Fall and winter offer the perfect intersection of optimal animal behavior and pristine cape quality.
- Flawless Hide Quality: Zebras do not grow a shaggy winter coat like deer, but their hides are in peak condition during this timeframe. Because the summer breeding and fighting seasons have ended, their skins are less likely to have fresh scars, bite marks, or hairless patches, giving you a clean, high-contrast black-and-white rug or mount.
- Increased Movement: Zebras are highly sensitive to heat. Oklahoma’s crisp autumn and cold winter days force the herds to actively graze and move in the open to absorb sunlight, making them significantly easier to spot and stalk during daylight hours.
Hunting Environment
From the fabulous lodge to the mild Oklahoma weather, hunting the Zebra will be a great experience. Unlike the extreme temperature swings found further north, Oklahoma’s hunting season offers comfortable, crisp mornings and temperate afternoons that allow you to stay in the field longer without battling the elements. On the occasional rainy day, you can hunt from the elevated blinds and have an enjoyable hunt staying nice and dry.
Average Temperatures in Oklahoma
